We have a different photo theme bimontly and the two hour sessions take place in different outdoor locations around Los Angeles. It's a great opportunity to try something new with the guidance of a professional photographer, and come away with some new shots for your portfolio or album.

Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from amateurs to professionals. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

Complete beginner? Please complete a Beginners Photography Class before attending a regular group session. This is a 3 hour structured workshop where you’ll learn the basics of using your camera with more 1-on-1 time with the instructor. Scroll down for dates.

What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

What’s involved? Each session starts with an introduction to the theme, and the photography instructor will chat about the camera settings and techniques to use. You’ll then have time to take lots of photos, with the instructor present to answer any questions. You’ll receive feedback and have a chance to chat with everyone to share tips and ideas. We’re a social bunch!

After group editing session. After each group the instructor runs an optional 1.5 hour critique, select, and edit session to help you improve your important post-shoot skills. While much editing can be done on modern cameras, it's best to bring a tablet or laptop with editing software to get the most out of this session. Select this option when booking to attend.

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Wildlife Photography Meetup - The Arboretum - 9am - 2 hours
Los Angeles Photography Group presents a Wildlife Photography meetup that is perfect if you want a 'hands on' approach to wildlife photography. We are visiting The Arboretum. Wildlife is a game of patience, perseverance and technical know-how. It requires you to be able to think on your feet and make changes to your focus, settings and exposure without taking the camera down from your eye. We cover key settings and when to use them, the array of focusing methods available on your camera, using histograms to analyse photos in-camera as well as constructive critique on compositions. For this meetup, it's necessary to have a firm understanding of your cameras basic settings with a little bit of experience under your belt as we will be delving deep into our camera settings and capabilities. It's also necessary to have a telephoto lens as these are critical for wildlife photography. You'll be under the guidance of professional photographer Shelley Nogle, who will be setting challenges and guiding you throughout, and providing feedback and answers on anything you're not sure about. Book in to join the instructor after the group for a 1.5 hour critique, select, and edit session where you can develop your post shoot skills. Bring your tablet or laptop. Having a professional photographer on our critique sessions will help move your photography to a higher level. Your photos will be evaluated along with a lot of encouragement. You will have a better understanding of the larger “picture” improving your skills as a photographer For the month of October we are offering all members that purchase a ticket to bring a friend along free of charge. *OCTOBER 2019 only Please let us know your friends details in the notes when booking your ticket. It was fun! It was encouraging and fun to be around fellow photographers. I gained more confidence in going full manual and was pleasantly surprised by the photos that came out of the session. It was a time of true experimentation, without fear of "messing up" which was much appreciated.
